Broadband Network Services
The focus of this program is to assist municipal utilities and other telecom carriers in maximizing their investment in broadband technology. The program is structured in a phased approach:
Current Broadband Network Assessment
The first step is to examine the legal and regulatory environment in the state to determine if there are any prohibitions or limitations on proposed or provided services. An in-depth operational analysis and evaluation of the client’s current fiber plant and telecommunications infrastructure is also conducted. All relevant technical and operational documentation is reviewed; the client’s physical infrastructure assessed and key personnel interviewed.
Service and Technology Design
The design phase outlines recommendations such as the creation of new services, re-pricing current products, modifications to existing infrastructure and operations, as well as certain cost-containment elements. These may include:
- Design and expansion of the commercial broadband network services.
- Potential wholesale telecommunications relationships with other service providers.
- Introduction of voice services via IP Telephony or wholesale partnerships.
Project Implementation
Layer Eight can provide ongoing project assistance that will enable clients to effectively and efficiently implement recommendations without necessarily incurring additional overhead. Moreover, an external and objective evaluation performed on a periodic basis may help to ensure public and private acceptance of the service.
